1. Who we are (mentions légales)

In these terms, "we" and "us" mean Guillaume Girard, and "you" means the person or organisation using Polaris.

2. The open-source version

The core Polaris tool is open source and released under the MIT License. Your use of that code is governed by the MIT License alone, not by these terms. Nothing here restricts the rights the MIT License grants you.

3. Polaris Pro

Polaris Pro is a paid subscription that unlocks additional features in the Polaris binary. It is licensed to you, not sold. While your subscription is active we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use Polaris Pro.

You agree not to:

• share, resell, or publish your licence key;
• attempt to circumvent licence verification, or use Pro features without a valid subscription;
• use Polaris to break the law or to infringe someone else's rights.

A licence key is issued per subscription. If you need to cover a team, buy one subscription per person.

4. Purchases and billing

Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Polar. Polar is the Merchant of Record for all orders. Polar handles the transaction, collects and remits applicable sales taxes (VAT, GST, and US sales tax), and issues your invoice. Polar's own terms and privacy policy apply to the payment itself.

Subscriptions renew automatically at the interval shown at checkout until cancelled. Prices are shown before you confirm payment; taxes are added or included as required by your location.

5. Refunds and cancellation

You can cancel at any time from your Polar customer portal. Cancellation stops future renewals; your Pro access continues until the end of the period you have already paid for, then lapses.

If Polaris Pro isn't for you, email us within 14 days of your purchase and we will refund it in full. You don't need to give a reason. Refunds are issued through Polar to your original payment method.

If you are a consumer in the EU or UK, you keep any statutory cancellation rights you have under local law — the policy above is in addition to those rights, not instead of them.

Droit de rétractation. Consumers normally have 14 days to withdraw from a distance purchase. Where the checkout asks you to consent to immediate delivery of the licence key and to acknowledge that you thereby lose that right, the withdrawal right does not apply (article L221-28 of the French Code de la consommation). Our 14-day refund policy above applies either way, so you can always get your money back within that window.

7. Availability

Polaris runs locally on your machine, so it keeps working whether or not our servers are up. Some things do need our service — activating a licence, renewing it, and downloading updates. We aim to keep these available but we don't promise uninterrupted service, and we may change or discontinue features over time.

8. No warranty

Polaris is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. You are responsible for keeping backups of your own data and code.

9. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, our total liability arising from your use of Polaris is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including lost profits or lost data. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded — including death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, and any statutory rights you have as a consumer.

10. Changes

We may update these terms. If a change materially affects you, we'll give reasonable notice before it takes effect — by email where we have your address, or a notice on this site. The "last updated" date above always reflects the current version.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of France, and its courts have jurisdiction over any dispute. If you are a consumer, you may also bring proceedings in your country of residence where local law gives you that right.
